The spread of fake news, conspiracy theories and disinformation has never been as problematic as in present day and time. Social Media has replaced traditional media as a source of news information albeit lacking regulations and obligatory fact checking. In today's digitalized world, everyone can be a publisher.
Us humans, we form our reality based on our percetion of the world. We have always relied on streams of clear information for that purpose. Today, it’s getting harder to recognize reliable information, the most vulnerable of them all being our youngest. It is time to give adolescents the support they need to navigate the information jungle that social media is and regain control over their reality.

What is Influencers@school?
It is a series of workshops for adolescents between the age of 14 and 17 focussing on (social) media literacy. Instead of bombarding teachers and parents with educational material we - the Open Circle Lab - take a street workers approach. We send real life influencers into schools and classrooms in order to help our most vulnerable groups to shift their perspective on social media. Influencers are the real experts of social media. They navigate the platforms, understand the algorithms and contribute to the user experience on Social Media. As the professionals adolescents look up to, they give the project a unique form of street credibility. Not only are influencers able to connect with teenagers on eye level but also authentically teach them about the pitfalls and stumbling blocks of social media.
